"Believe" is a song written by Glen Ballard and Alan Silvestri and performed by Josh Groban.

The song plays when the end credits start in the film. It is followed by a medley of other songs from the film, featuring, in order, "The Polar Express", "When Christmas Comes to Town", "Hot Chocolate", and "Spirit of the Season." The song can be heard as an instrumental throughout the movie as part of its score, more prominently than other songs. It is also featured on the official soundtrack as the fourth track.

The song was nominated for Best Original Song at the 77th Academy Awards and sung at the awards show by Josh Groban with Beyoncé Knowles. It gained a Grammy Award in 2006 for "Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media", and a Golden Globe for the same category at the 62nd Golden Globe Awards.

Brian McKnight performed the song at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2005, then Natalie Grant in 2006, both times accompanying a float inspired by the film.

Jackie Evancho performed a cover version of the song for her 2011 album Heavenly Christmas. The original Groban version is featured on the deluxe edition of Groban's Noël album in 2017. Dara Reneé did a cover in the 2020 special High School Musical: The Musical: The Holiday Special, which is also featured on the soundtrack for said special.

Lyrics[]

Children sleeping, snow is softly falling.
Dreams are calling, like bells in the distance.
We were dreamers not so long ago.
But one by one we all had to grow up.
When it seems the magic slipped away,
We find it all again on Christmas day...
Believe in what your heart is saying,
Hear the melody that's playing.
There's no time to waste,
There's so much to celebrate.
Believe in what you feel inside,
And give your dreams the wings to fly.
You have everything you need,
If you just believe.
Trains move quickly to their journey's end.
Destinations are where we begin again.
Ships go sailing far across the sea.
Trusting starlight, to get where they need to be.
When it seems that we have lost our way,
We find ourselves again on Christmas day...
Believe in what your heart is saying,
Hear the melody that's playing.
There's no time to waste,
There's so much to celebrate.
Believe in what you feel inside,
And give your dreams the wings to fly.
You have everything you need,
If you just believe.
If you just believe.
If you just believe.
If you just believe.
Just believe.
Just believe.

Children sleeping, snow is softly falling.
Dreams are calling, like bells in the distance.
We were dreamers not so long ago.
But one by one we all had to grow up.
When it seems the magic slipped away,
We find it all again on Christmas day...
Believe in what your heart is saying,
Hear the melody that's playing.
There's no time to waste,
There's so much to celebrate.
Believe in what you feel inside,
And give your dreams the wings to fly.
You have everything you need,
If you just believe.
If you just believe.
If you just believe.
If you just believe.
