"Spirit of the Season" is a song, performed by Alan Silvestri, from the 2004 film, The Polar Express. An instrumental plays while Hero Boy, Hero Girl and Billy get carried to the city center in the big bag. It plays again after the children get rescued from the bag when the reindeer show up.
It is also the fifth and final song to play during the credits, after "Hot Chocolate" and is featured on the film's soundtrack as the sixth track and on the score as the eleventh.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has done a cover version of the song for its 2006 Christmas concert of the same name with Sissel Kyrkjebø as a guest singer. 2007 saw the released of a DVD version of the concert and an album also of the same name based on the concert, containing the song as the tenth track, which has been nominated for two Grammys: Best Classical Crossover Album and Best Engineered Album - Classical.
Lyrics
- It's the spirit of the season
- You can feel it in the air
- You can hear it if you listen
- Everywhere, so much care, like a prayer
- Whatever it is, you need to share it
- It's the spirit of the season
- You can feel it in the air
- People smile as they pass you by
- The day will be here soon
- Dreams are dancing in the children's eyes
- Hearts are singing, bells are ringing, too
- It's the spirit of the season
- Filling hearts with love and care
- Let the shining star increase it
- Everywhere, feeling there, like a prayer
- Whatever it is, you need to share it
- It's the spirit of the season
- It's the spirit of the season
- (instrumental break)
- Snow is falling as you rush downtown
- The city seems to glow
- Laughter reaches from the happy sounds
- Hearts are singing, bells are ringing too
- It's the spirit of the season
- Healing hearts with love and care
- Like a shining star, it glistens
- Everywhere, feeling there, like a prayer
- Whatever it is, you need to share it
- It's the spirit of the season
- You can hear it in the air
- It's the spirit of the season
- You can hear it everywhere
- Fa la la la la!
